Working With My Dentist

A few years ago, I realized that I was thinking about dental care all wrong. Instead of listening carefully to my dentist and making the necessary changes, I assumed that he was ultimately responsible for making sure that my teeth stayed healthy. Unfortunately, I developed a few serious cavities because I failed to properly brush and floss my teeth, and I knew that it was my fault. I decided to start taking notes at my dental checkups and carefully abiding by the dentist's orders. The difference was almost miraculous. This blog is all about working with your dentist to improve your result.

Missing or damaged teeth can have significant effects on a person. It can make chewing difficult and interfere with your appearance. Dental implants offer a good option for people with missing or damaged teeth resulting from injuries, old age, or health conditions.

Despite all the good things that come with these implants, they are not suitable for everyone. Some conditions may disqualify a person from getting them. Read on to learn whether you are suited for dental implants.

Requirements To Meet Before Dental Implants Procedure

There are some requirements you should meet before getting dental implants. These include:

Adequate Jaw Bone

Your dentist will take images of your jawbone before a dental implant procedure to assess its density. The jaw bones must be strong enough to hold the implant and bind with its base. If you have insufficient jaw bone, the implants will fall off since they don't have enough support. Fortunately, you can get a jaw bone graft if your jaw bone is not strong enough to qualify for the procedure.

Good Health

You will require anesthesia before a dental implant procedure. You, therefore, need to be in good overall health. Your doctor will ask you about your medical history and may conduct further tests to ascertain that you are a good candidate for the procedure.

If you have some health conditions that put you at risk of infection after getting the implants, the doctor may prescribe antibiotics to keep you safe.

Some chronic conditions may also hinder a person from getting the implants. For example, if a condition interferes with the body's ability to heal, you may not qualify for the procedure.

Healthy Gums

Your doctor needs to examine your gums comprehensively to check whether you have gum disease. Generally, your gum needs to be healthy to support the implant. If you have a condition affecting your gum, you might have to wait until you heal to get the implants. Putting implants on unhealthy gums puts a person at risk of developing infections.

Benefits Of Dental Implants

Dental implants have several benefits. They enhance your smile and improve your general appearance. Additionally, they are comfortable and feel like just natural teeth. Thus, you can comfortably chew with them.

On top of that, they are long-lasting. They offer a permanent solution for missing or damaged teeth without a need for frequent replacement. Also, the dental implant procedure is only slightly uncomfortable and is safe when conducted by a professional.
